Early Pregnancy
The Medical Director, Dr Carole Gilling-Smith, has a particular interest and expertise in the problems of early pregnancy (12 weeks or less).
We recognise that early pregnancy can be a worrying time for couples. If you have any worries, concerns or questions about your pregnancy, we can arrange an appointment to see you, offer advice and perform an ultrasound scan to reassure you that all is well with your baby. If we discover a complication such as a miscarriage or an ectopic pregnancy (pregnancy outside the womb) we will arrange treatment at a local private hospital or NHS hospital. We have no operating theatre on site to give a general anaesthetic.
During weekdays, we aim to see patients with pain or bleeding in the first 12 weeks of pregnancy on the same day as the call is received to assess the problem and provide a diagnosis and management plan. Our assessment will include a history and internal scan by the doctor and sometimes hormone blood tests. We will be able to let you know the result of your scan immediately and of any blood tests within 24 hours.
Patients with some bleeding in pregnancy, which is very common, are seen and usually reassured on the same day.
